What data is processed
When you use DNSReach, the service processes the domain name, hostname or IP address you submit, the DNS record type you request, DNS responses returned by configured resolvers and technical information needed to deliver and secure the request. Standard web-server logs may include your IP address, browser information, request time and requested page.
If saved searches, monitoring, managed geographic nodes, subscriptions or account features are enabled, DNSReach may also process the saved domain or hostname, monitoring settings, alert preferences, account details, node identifiers and service usage records needed to provide those features.
Why data is processed
Submitted DNS data is processed to perform the lookup you request, compare resolver answers, detect differences, provide DNS diagnostics and protect the service from abuse. Administrative and security records are processed to operate, secure and maintain the installation. Where optional analytics or marketing tools are enabled, those tools are loaded only according to the cookie and consent settings configured for this installation.
Legal bases
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, processing needed to provide a requested DNS lookup or account feature is generally based on performance of a contract or steps requested before entering a contract. Security, abuse prevention, service reliability and limited operational logging may rely on legitimate interests. Optional analytics or marketing technologies which require consent are based on consent.
DNS queries and third parties
DNS lookups are sent to the DNS resolvers or geographic DNS nodes configured for this installation. Those operators receive the DNS query and may process network metadata according to their own policies. Public resolver services may include third-party providers such as Google Public DNS, Cloudflare, Quad9 or OpenDNS when the administrator enables them.
Retention
Operational and security data is retained only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected. The configured general retention period is 30 days, unless a longer period is needed for security, legal obligations, billing, active monitoring, saved history or dispute handling. DNS lookup results held only in short-lived cache are removed much sooner.
International transfers
DNS resolvers and geographic nodes may be located in different countries. A DNS query may therefore be processed outside your country. Where personal data is transferred internationally and data-protection law requires safeguards, the operator of this installation is responsible for choosing appropriate providers and safeguards.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of personal data, to receive portable data, and to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
